Hey folks. Sorry once again for the delay in posting…it’s been a bumpy few weeks since my wife and I moved to Colorado, and we’re just now settled enough that I feel like I might be able to get into a normal routine again. Every once in a while, a C-130 airplane flies overhead, since we live so close to the Air Force base, and it reminds me that I’m somewhere new. In Arizona, it was the constant train noise that identified my surroundings. Now the noise has taken to the air…totally different vibe altogether.
So what’s been going on? I’ve got big news, cool news, and mundane news. Let’s start with the mundane.
My wife, Rachel, had a birthday last week, so we took advantage of our new surroundings here in Colorado and took the Cog Railway up Pikes Peak. What a great adventure! Highly recommended.

The view from the top of the world. It was September 8, it was 14,000 feet, it was 30 degrees at the top. Fantastic in every way.

This is a picture I snapped at the train depot in Manitou Springs. The train up at the top of the photo is the one we took up the mountain. It gets steep! It takes about an hour and 20 mins to get to the top.

The view from the top. Clouds rolled in and out the entire time. If you go up, be sure to go into the visitor's center and try the donuts. They are amazing. No lie. I ate way too many for my own good, but I'd do it again.
Okay, mundane news over. Onto cool news, if you haven’t already heard: I’m doing a reading and signing in Connecticut!

Details: Wednesday, September 28 in downtown Waterbury, CT. I'll be reading and signing from 12-2 pm. Then I'll be eating some goodies from the John Bale Cafe. Then I'll probably find somewhere to drink a beer.
John Bale books is one of my favorite places in CT, and owner Edith Reynolds has been very supportive of this homegrown author. Some friends of mine and I actually shot a movie in John Bale…they were gracious hosts. Please come on by and support not just me, but also a great bookstore. These guys are what Indie stores should be all about: embracing other Indies. John Bale doesn’t put up the front and then turn their backs on the little guys. They’re great, I can’t say it enough.
Okay, onto the GREAT, FANTASTIC, AMAZING NEWS!
“Men Waiting For Sleep,” my newest, unfinished novel, is coming up on completion. I wrote about 8000 words this week, and I’d say I’ve got about three to five more weeks of writing and I’ll be done with the first draft! If you can’t wait until March/April for the publication, well, you’ll just have to keep your eyes on this blog for sneak previews and other short stories. You can also head over to the Brown Tie store and buy some short stories for only $0.99. Always a good deal.
Oh, and keep your eyes peeled over the next few days. I’ve got another free short story to post here on the blog…

Dan, who knew all those years ago that one day I would be buying a book you had written or responding to your blog? Did you always know you would become a writer?
I had a pretty good idea I’d be a writer, though I wanted to be so many other things, too! Maybe there’s still time…
Are you still at NVCC, Ingrid?
